The Old Mill Steel Drum Band

At Adam’s Grille, we love to get involved and show our love and support for our community. One of our favorite ways to do that is through the endorsement of the Old Mill Steel Drum Band. We are very proud to raise proceeds and awareness of our favorite local band. So, be sure to check them out during their next show, and tell them that Adam’s sent you! Until then, read on for more information about The Old Mill Steel Drum Band.

About the Band

If you are a student or teacher at Old Mill High School, you may have heard or recognized the sounds and instruments of the Old Mill Steel Drum Band. The Old Mill Steel Drum Band is a group of young performers who play Caribbean-style music from Trinidad. The band started in 2000 with a small group of students who sacrificed their lunch period to play the steel pan. Now, the program is comprised of over 100 students and continues to grow.

Michael Miller is the Music Department Chairperson and the director of the band. Miller studied Music Education at Towson University and is a self-taught pan player and arranger. Moreover, Miller has been a teacher at OMHS for 13 years and has a collective 23 years of experience teaching in AACPS. He also has 25 years of experience as a professional musician.

All About the Music

The large ensemble performs many musical styles that are both rhythmic and upbeat. Some styles include Soca, Calypso, Reggae, Jazz, Classical, Pop, and more. Additionally, the band has had the opportunity to perform at many venues, including the Chesapeake Center for Creative Arts, the Naval Academy, Rams Head On Stage, Maryland Seafood Festival, CRASC convention in Ocean City, The Kennedy Center, Maryland Hall, and many others. Throughout the past decade, the band has worked with several well-known pan artists, such as Andy Narell, Ray Holman, Shawn Thwaites, Victor Provost, and Liam Teague.

We love our community and have truly enjoyed being a part of the Severna Park area for 30 years. We really are more than just ribs! But, if you’re craving a short stack, we have that too. See you tonight for dinner?
